As a wheelchair user, I know how difficult it is to pack when going away on a trip. especially if you have so much medical equipment like me it can feel very over whelming sometimes. I love travelling but I have never actually been on a plane as a wheelchair user. I try to avoid flying as much as possible and just stick to UK holidays. Ive just heard so much horror stories on how chairs get broken on the way, it just scares me.
Wheelchair charger and make sure to charge your chair
The most important item to pack is your whrrlchair bxh arger. Ive done this so many times before. I either forget to plug it in or the plug wasn’t actually in the wall. The amount of times that I have left the house with that happening its terrible. So remember all your chargers. Wheelchair charger especially.
For me packing for just a 2 day trip is hrll. You have to remember every single little think the most important essentials otherwise if we run out we would be nuggaref. So honestly I totally get how stressful these things can be.
One of the most helpful things that I have learnt is that make sure that I write down on my phone just on the notes app a week in advance the things I know I need to take.
Things I need to take
I am very complex so I have a lot of machines that I take with me such as
Suction machine: This helps bring up the mucus as I can’t cough it out myself.
2 Ventilation machines these help me breathe at night just in case one of them Dorset work.
My coughs and nebuliser: This allows me to bring up any secretions that I have sitting on my chest.
and some other things but these are the most essential items that I cannot forget. If I do we wouldn’t have a choice but to go back home. So my advice is just stay organised. Set reminds on aleck or your phone.
Why an extension lead?
The most gsmechanger thing to pack is defiantly an extension lead because some hotels or bnb have hardly any plugs whatsoever. I take one on every trip and they are brilliant. jUSo having an extension lead will make things do much easier.
Just a few bits and bobs
NAow that the essentials are done, let’s pack the least important things. So I normally pack my headphones of course so that I can blast music on the way up and back, I always pack mu makeup just in case we ever go out a particular night and I also take my journal too. I am a lover of journaling. I have at least seven notebooks at home filled up with my life. I guess I love the idea of looking back in years to come.
Anti sickness wrist bands
Whenever I travel by boat I always get such sea sick. Even when I was young myncolour just goes green. But a couple of years ago I went on a boating trip and I found these on amazon and they are brilliant. If you suffer from really bad sea sickness like me buy these because they will eas3 your stomach immediately.
travelling may require a bit more preparation, but it’s absolutely worth it. Don’t let your wheelchair stop you from exploring new places, making memories, and enjoying new experiences. With a little planning and the right equipment, the world is still yours to discover. You will get there just like I did.
Be brave be bold the world is your oyster. Another really important piece of advice is. Please do not listen to others opinions or judgement. Just be you and travel the world.
Happy travels!
